Can you detune floyd rose
Just wondered what if any affect swapping between standard and Eb tuning would have with my Ibanez RG The whole Floyd thing is pretty new to me - and I'm finding I can't back the fine tuners out far enough to tune to Eb. Finally - will tuning to Eb affect the Floyd system negatively?
I'd only be doing this occasionally in order to tinker with some Rocksmith songs that are in Eb. Alternately I guess I could retune one of my strats to Eb for those songs. Messages: 3, VH did it first, since he had the first floyd. Age: 54 Messages: 32, I have a SG for drop D or flat tuning.
But that's just me The Floyd Rose is too dang hard to set up right to begin with, once I got it there its dedicated, my fine tuners are set midway that way if a string goes out I just need to move it a little to get it back.
Of course if you move one then you probably gotta move the others. Probably why I only have one guitar with a Floyd Rose. Bodean , Oct 21, Age: 54 Messages: 22, Again, all of this applies just as much to Fender- Ibanez- and Floyd Rose style vibrato systems.

Don't FR systems always have a locking nut? Let's just assume so. I used to do ithis quite often with my acoustic guitar. There was no big problem. DLM said:. Thanks DLM. An excuse to buy another guitar, Shirley? Funkfingers Frets: DLM said: Tremol-No or similar. NelsonP Frets: I have an Ibanez rg. As soon as you detune the e string the others will go sharp.
So you need to undo the locking nuts and retune everything, all the time being mindful of how the tuning of one string affects the others. It's a pita. Start on the low strings and work up. Detune everything a little then drop the e to d. What is a 10 second job on a fixed bridge takes a few minutes with a Floyd.
The other option is to set up the e string with the fine tuner wound all the way in. Then just detune by winding it out. But it will sound like crap because all other strings will be sharp so you'll probably end up adjusting those too and at that point it's easier to undo the locking nuts and use the first approach above.
