Can you filter pool water to drink

Pretty sure distillation is the only way. Taste like crap, but its potable. Tip: Get two large pitchers, fill one. Pour water back and forth several times between the two. This adds oxygen back to the water, improving the taste. Works well with filtered water from natural or questionable water sources, too.????????????????????????

Having spent the last fifty years in the swimming pool industry l would like to add some additional info. Sand and cartridge type filters are more common due to cost. Sand will typically filter down to 20 micron , a cartridge will usually filter down to 14 — 16 micron size , D.

You can use D. It can also be used to filter used cooking oil , for reuse. It is a very safe insecticide, in that it kill by literally cutting the ectoskeleton of an insect that walks through it. Just make sure to store the paper bag of D. Liquid and gas chlorine do not contain cyanuric acid. One minor flaw with this article. Heavy metals and other chemicals in sunscreen may not be filtered out by many popular filters.

If pool users often slather on sunscreen then jump in without rinsing off first, they are polluting your water. The absolute best idea is to somehow distill the water, this can be done with a solar system.

At all. Of all the potential water sources out there, pool water is not exactly great. Make sure you take the precautions we list below before you decide if you should be drinking pool water. For one thing, even the best-filtered pool water is still likely to be a lot filthier than water that we would tend to consider of drinking quality today. With that being said, there are roughly 10, gallons of water in the average above ground pool and 20, gallons of water in an in-ground pool.

Pool water can definitely make you sick. The CDC lists cryptosporidium aka crypto and giardia as the two leading causes of pool water-related illnesses. Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal disease cryptosporidiosis. There are many species of Cryptosporidium that infect animals, some of which also infect humans.

The parasite is protected by an outer shell that allows it to survive outside the body for long periods of time and makes it very tolerant to chlorine disinfection. So you should use ONLY your own pool water if you have not added other chemicals. So the next time you drain your pool, think about using only bleach. Mine takes 1 gallon every other day to stop the algae growth. I do not really understand much about how chemicals work but I do know for a fact that chemicals are dangerous to the health.

It is toxic. Yes we hear many people who say they have swallowed chlorine treated water while swimming and have safely gotten away with the danger…but the thing is, it was just a gulp of water. Thinking about consuming pool water as drinking water is another story. I really do not think it safe and it must be avoided. The best way to purify pool water for drinking is distillation.

Good article and appreciate the comments. How about a salt water filtration system on a pool. Can the water be safely filtered in a berkey? I know being stranded on a body of salt water one would go down the tubes fast if enough was drank so is it the same principle for a salt water pool?

Perhaps adding bleach to the pool makes more sense and having extra berkey filters on hand since it causes more wear with chlorine even in bleach. I just talked to Berkey, the filter works for pool water but not for the salt in some pools. Your email address will not be published.
