Why is genesis 10 included in the bible
It is men, holding hands, saying we are one. And, like the hub of a spoked wheel, Christ is the point of unity.
It has nothing to do with consensus, compromise or even majority rules. What is also fascinating is that we get a wonderful demonstration of this principle, in the form of the OPPOSITE thing happening thousands of years later. Remember our principle of opposites. Everything in our Universe has an opposite, or, for you scientists, a reverse corollary.
Here in the story of the Tower of Babel, God is once again demonstrating how He will divide and separate that which man wants to unify. And, the dividing mechanism He used on this occasion was language. In effect unifying that which He had divided and separated over years earlier. Do you see this fascinating connection between Pentecost and the Tower of Babel?
The unity was not a physical type of unity; it was a spiritual type of unity. He even gives them the ability to understand and speak languages they never understood or spoke before….. Nimrod was a real, literal man, but he was also a type. He is the first of a type of man who wanted to rule the world, and represents all the attributes of he who will become the LAST man who wants to rule the world: the Anti-Christ. And, of course, this is to oppose the man who is the exact opposite, Yeshua….
Jesus the Christ…. Nimrod, of the cursed line of Ham, son of Cush, is credited with being the first empire builder in history. He is the first to want to dominate not just the animals, but men. He is the first to build a walled city; this is a clue as to why he is thought to be the inventor of warfare.
That is, there is only one reason to build a wall around where you live: self-protection. And, if you were the first to think of the idea, imagine how you could go out and raid and conquer others, and retreat to safety behind the walls so that others could not do the same to you.
Nimrod married Semiramis. After he died, his wife declared him to be God. Further, as the earthly wife of God, she made herself Queen of Heaven. They had son, named Tamuz. Tamuz was considered to be the rebirth….. So, now, we had a man-god ruler….. They all have their starting point with Nimrod. Ever since that day, both Nimrod and Semiramis now deified as god and goddess have appeared by different names……names reflecting the language and culture that adopted them. Semiramis, as the mother of all mothers, was therefore the fertility goddess.
In Egypt, her name was Isis. Her oldest known name was Astarte. Later, Nimrod would also be known as Marduk, and then Molech. And, how the prophetic curse of the line of Ham, by Noach, is playing out. You can be your boots that the Anti-Christ will be from the line of Ham. Interestingly, the name of the city Nimrod first built, Bavel, had in more ancient times a different meaning than it does now. Notice the spelling of Bav-el.
Originally, Bav-el meant the city of God. In the end, as a result of the confusion of languages, the city of Bavel, Babylon, stopped its expansion; and the people moved out, and now at a much faster pace began to repopulate far-flung places in the world. And, as marvelous was that event, it was to point to yet another time in the future when the people of God, in all the nations of the world, would come back from their dispersion, to unite in one spirit, under our present and future king, Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus Christ.
We call this united kingdom of God the Millennial Kingdom. In the form of his own one-world government. We today, are in that generation that is actively reincarnating what Nimrod tried to do…… to bind all the world into one people, echad, under one rule, and one ruler….. And, large segments of the church are blindly leading the way preaching tolerance, world harmony, peace at any price, and the end of Torah such that instead we should trust the goodness of our hearts.
From V 10 to the end of this chapter the lineage of Shem, beginning with him and taking us all the way to Abraham, is recounted. We are also given some good basic information about Abraham and his family. For instance, his father was Terach, and Abraham had two brothers…..
The Lord led them to a choice land where they were able to worship Him and raise their families in righteousness see Ether — Write the following names on the board: Japheth, Ham, and Shem. Explain that Genesis 10 lists the descendants of these three sons of Noah: Japheth see verses 2—5 , Ham see verses 6—20 , and Shem see verses 21— Ask students to read Genesis silently and identify whom the people listed in the remainder of Genesis 11 descend from.
Ask students to report what they learn. Ask students to scan Genesis —29 to find the names Abram and Sarai. Ask students if they are familiar with these two names.
Help them understand that Abram was a prophet whose name was later changed to Abraham. The Lord also changed the name of his wife Sarai to Sarah see Genesis , Tell students that as they continue to study the Old Testament, they will learn about a covenant God made with Abraham and Sarah to bless all the people of the earth.
To help students understand the context for the scripture mastery references that have been introduced so far this year, write the following four headings across the top of the board: Speaker, Audience, Purpose, and Other Helpful Insights. Divide students into groups, and assign each group one of the following scripture mastery passages: Moses ; Moses ; Genesis —27 ; Genesis Invite students to discover the context of their assigned passages as they identify information that corresponds to each of the headings on the board.
Explain that they can do this by reading the scripture chapter summary and some of the verses before and after their scripture mastery passage. Have them write their findings on the board. Then ask each group to explain the context of their assigned passage and how this information affects their understanding of the truths taught in that passage.
To add another element to this activity, you could ask the class to guess the scripture mastery references based on the descriptions on the board before each group gives its explanation.
His name Nimrod comes from … marad, he rebelled; and the Targum [ancient Jewish translations or paraphrases of the scriptures], on [ 1 Chronicles ], says: Nimrod began to be a mighty man in sin, a murderer of innocent men, and a rebel before the Lord. The word … tsayid, which we render hunter, signifies prey; and is applied in the Scriptures to the hunting of men by persecution, oppression, and tyranny.
In addition to providing an explanation for the numerous languages now found on the earth, the account of the Tower of Babel shows how quickly in less than years the people forgot the lessons of the Flood and turned again from the Lord. The Book of Mormon illustrates how the actual confounding of the languages may not have occurred instantaneously but may have happened over an unknown length of time.
Jared asked his brother to call upon the Lord and request that their language not be confounded. This request was granted. Then Jared asked his brother to plead that the language of their friends would stay the same as theirs. This request was also granted. See Ether — It appears that, as Babylon was built on the river Euphrates, and the tower of Babel was in the land of Shinar , consequently Shinar itself must have been in the southern part of Mesopotamia.
Out of that land went forth Asshur — The marginal reading is to be preferred here. Thus did this mighty hunter extend his dominions in every possible way.
The city of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria, is supposed to have had its name from Ninus , the son of Nimrod; but probably Ninus and Nimrod are the same person. This city, which made so conspicuous a figure in the history of the world, is now called Mossul ; it is an inconsiderable place, built out of the ruins of the ancient Nineveh.
Rehoboth, and Calah, c. Mizraim begat Ludim — Supposed to mean the inhabitants of the Mareotis , a canton in Egypt, for the name Ludim is evidently the name of a people. Anamim — According to Bochart, the people who inhabited the district about the temple of Jupiter Ammon. Lehabim — The Libyans , or a people who dwelt on the west of the Thebaid , and were called Libyo-Egyptians.
Naphtuhim — Even the conjectures can scarcely fix a place for these people. Bochart seems inclined to place them in Marmarica , or among the Troglodytae. Pathrusim — The inhabitants of the Delta , in Egypt, according to the Chaldee paraphrase; but, according to Bochart, the people who inhabited the Thebaid, called Pathros in Scripture.
Casluhim — The inhabitants of Colchis ; for almost all authors allow that Colchis was peopled from Egypt. Sidon — Who probably built the city of this name, and was the father of the Sidonians. Heth — From whom came the Hittites, so remarkable among the Canaanitish nations.
These are the sons of Ham after their families — No doubt all these were well known in the days of Moses, and for a long time after; but at this distance, when it is considered that the political state of the world has been undergoing almost incessant revolutions through all the intermediate portions of time, the impossibility of fixing their residences or marking their descendants must be evident, as both the names of the people and the places of their residences have been changed beyond the possibility of being recognized.
See the history of Abraham, Genesis Elam — From whom came the Elamites , near to the Medes, and whose chief city was Elymais. Asshur — Who gave his name to a vast province afterwards a mighty empire called Assyria. Arphaxad — From whom Arrapachitis in Assyria was named, according to some; or Artaxata in Armenia, on the frontiers of Media, according to others.
Lud — The founder of the Lydians. Uz — Who peopled Caelosyria , and is supposed to have been the founder of Damascus. Gether — Supposed by Calmet to have been the founder of the Itureans , who dwelt beyond the Jordan, having Arabia Deserta on the east, and the Jordan on the west. Salah — The founder of the people of Susiana. The Septuagint add Cainan here, with one hundred and thirty to the chronology. Though some are of opinion that a physical division, and not a political one, is what is intended here, viz.
This opinion appears to me the most likely, for what is said, Genesis , is spoken by way of anticipation. Joktan — He had thirteen sons who had their dwelling from Mesha unto Sephar, a mount of the east , which places Calmet supposes to be mount Masius , on the west in Mesopotamia , and the mountains of the Saphirs on the east in Armenia, or of the Tapyrs farther on in Media.
In confirmation that all men have been derived from one family, let it be observed that there are many customs and usages, both sacred and civil, which have prevailed in all parts of the world; and that these could owe their origin to nothing but a general institution, which could never have existed, had not mankind been originally of the same blood, and instructed in the same common notions before they were dispersed.
Among these usages may be reckoned,. Their giving a tenth part of the produce of their fields, c. The wisdom and goodness of God are particularly manifested in repeopling the earth by means of three persons , all of the same family, and who had witnessed that awful display of Divine justice in the destruction of the world by the flood, while themselves were preserved in the ark.
By this very means the true religion was propagated over the earth for the sons of Noah would certainly teach their children, not only the precepts delivered to their father by God himself, but also how in his justice he had brought the flood on the world of the ungodly, and by his merciful providence preserved them from the general ruin. It is on this ground alone that we can account for the uniformity and universality of the above traditions, and for the grand outlines of religious truth which are found in every quarter of the world.
