The rules require three things. It may be assumed that condition a is true for the purposes of this question. Condition b is not otherwise false. Improve this answer. How about lasers atop the uprights? That would pose a challenge, too. Anybody who's watched a field goal try hit an upright and make that "bonk" sound as it caroms either way knows that can be iffy. There's no bonk. That bounce can mean a lot of things with how the football is going.

All NFL goalposts this season will sit atop crossbars attached to goosenecks 10 feet above the ground, meaning the top of each post will extend 45 feet into the air compared to 40 previously. The change was proposed by the New England Patriots. In , they lost to the Baltimore Ravens after kicker Justin Tucker's yard field goal flew higher than the top of the right upright. Patriots coach Bill Belichick protested the kick was wide.

If you look at it that way Balitmore's last second field goal Sundaya against NE was most definetly good. I knew if the ball went over the top of the post it was good, but I didn't know it only had to be part of it. If that is the case, AV's FG in the Jags game this week should be good by an inch of the ball that went by it.

Known about that rule for a while. There was never a question that Baltimore won that game but it is pretty incredible that it was even that close. Rookie kickers I actually heard something different where they said a proportion of the ball has to be enough to be reasnable that it would go through the uprights if lower IE a judgement call.

Steve Tasker said during the Colts game when Adam made a close kick that if the ball went over any part of the upright it's good even if the smallest part of the ball goes over the outside of the upright and had it hit the upright if they extended and it would have bounced out as no good. As you said thought it's a judgement call though. I don't normally like Tasker but the one thing I think he knows is special teams. Doesnt matter it is done, and the ref blew it IMO I agree - the league had just put out a statement a few days earlier saying lay off the refs and then he does that!

No Joke, on his first attempt i was yelling at the tv because especially from the Ref view camera angle underneath the uprights it looked like it was above, which would make it good I honestly wasn't sure if it was or not, but it's nnice to be refreshed by what counts every now and then!
